Independent political economist, author, and public speaker
Phumlani M. Majozi, known on X (formerly Twitter) as @EconomicsMajozi, is a South African political economist, author, and commentator. He has been active on the platform since at least 2021, focusing on economic policy, politics, and advocacy for free-market principles, personal responsibility, strong law and order, and family values. As of late 2025, he continues to post regularly on topics like market economies, critiques of government intervention, and South African politics. He left his corporate job in December 2023 after 10 years, citing harassment for his conservative views, and now focuses on building his personal brand through writing, speaking, and online content. Recent activities include promoting his book (launched in November 2023), keynote presentations, and expanding his online presence. His X account was created around 2020-2021 based on early activity patterns, though exact date is not publicly detailed in available sources.
Majozi is a credible voice as a self-identified political economist with a decade in corporate experience and authorship, offering insightful analysis on South African economics and policy. His influence stems from authentic engagement with followers on X, where posts garner moderate interaction (e.g., 1,000-30,000 views, 5-600 favorites recently). However, his work is heavily ideological, promoting personal responsibility and market-driven solutions, which may introduce bias against interventionist policies. No evidence of factual inaccuracies, but opinions could polarize; cross-platform consistency strengthens reliability as an independent commentator, though unverified status limits institutional endorsement.
Assessment by Grok AI
No major fact-checks, corrections, or debunkings identified in searches; content is primarily opinion-based analysis rather than strict factual reporting. Historical posts show consistent ideological framing without evident misinformation, though some critiques arise from his rejection of 'victimhood' narratives in South African socio-economic discourse. Left corporate role amid reported executive harassment over views, but no formal controversies or retractions noted.

So President Cyril Ramaphosa wants to exit the government before the end of his second term? Well, it's a speculation. Interesting still. "The meeting also comes amid intense speculation within the higher echelons of the ANC that Ramaphosa is planning to take a step back from leading the government early next year. This is according to several ANC leaders who contacted the Sunday Times this week and indicated that Ramaphosa seemed determined to exit the government before the end of his official five-year term in 2029. But it is unlikely Ramaphosa will communicate his alleged plans to the GNU before engaging with relevant ANC leadership structures — its top seven officials, the national executive committee (NEC) and tripartite alliance partners — on the issue," Sunday Times reports. #politics #markets #macro #GNU

This is not good for South Africa. I'm one of the economists who have been critical of expropriation without compensation. "A landmark legal battle over South Africa’s first attempt at expropriation without compensation is headed for mediation this week, as the City of Ekurhuleni defends its decision to seize 34 hectares of privately owned land without paying a cent. The City of Ekurhuleni and the owners of the private piece of land in Driefontein, Boksburg are expected to enter a court-directed mediation on Friday (31st October 2025) to resolve the dispute," EWN reports. #landreform #economy #politics #markets

The most powerful racial group in South Africa is black people. Black people account for more than 80% of the population, control all economic and political policy institutions. They have enormous power. Then why BEE policies? Makes zero sense. Scrap BEE! #economy #BEE
